n: a glass tube or metal housing with a glass window that is connected to a vessel to indicate the level of the liquid contents.

n: the distance from the gauge, or reference, point from the bottom of a tank to a gauge, or reference, point at the top of the tank, usually on the hatch. On marine vessels, the measurement must be made when the vessel is on even keel.
