n: the weights on a beam pumping unit installed on the end of the walking beam, which is opposite the end over the well. The counterbalance offsets, or balances, the weight of sucker rods and other downhole equipment installed in the well.

n: the effect of counterweights on a beam pumping unit. The approximate ideal counterbalance effect is equal to half the weight of the fluid plus the buoyant weight of the rods.

On the downstroke, high-pressure gas is applied to the top of the pistons, and the low-pressure gas below the pistons is exhausted to the sales line.
