n: the bearing between the rod and the crankshaft. Often called the rod bearing.

n: in an engine, a large circular friction-reducing device installed on the engines crankshaft. Main bearings are mounted in the engines crankcase and the crankshaft rotates on them. Engine oil lubricates them as the engine runs. Most main bearings are plain bearings, in that their wear surface is flat or plain and do not have balls or rollers. Compare ball bearing, roller bearing.
