n: a level metal plate attached to the tank shell or bottom and located directly under the gauging reference point to provide a fixed contact surface from which liquid depth measurement can be made.

n: a European term for datum plate. dip rod n: a rigid length of wood or metal that is provided with a scale for measurement and usually graduated in units of volume. It is used for manual measurement of liquid in a container. Also called dipstick.
