v: 1. to supercharge an engine. See supercharge. 2. to depressure. See depressure.

v: to empty or depressure a vessel. Also called depressure.

to release gas pressure. In a reservoir, blow down is often after the oil recovery phase has been complete and the majority of the gas from the gas cap needs to be recovered.

v: to release the pressure contained in a tank, vessel, or pipe to a predetermined value. See bleed.

n: in an orifice meter installation, a mechanism for holding the orifice plate in the pipeline. In a singlechamber fitting, the gas flow must be stopped and the meter tube depressured before the orifice plate can be removed. Compare dual-chamber fitting.
