n: A member of the drilling crew whose workstation is on the monkey-board high up in the derrick. From there he handles the upper end of the stands of drillpipe being raised or lowered. He is also responsible for maintaining circulation equipment and carring

steel fingers mounted to the derrick into which the derrick man stores pipe that is standing in the derrick.

n: the derrickhands working platform. As pipe or tubing is run into or out of the hole. the derrickhand must handle the top end of the pipe. which may be as high as 90 feet (27 metres) or higher in the derrick or mast.

To exit by the safety slide, the derrick-hand grasps a handle on it and rides it down to the ground. Also called a geronimo.
