n: a European term for the point on the bottom of a container that the dip weight touches during gauging and from which the measurement of the oil and water depths are taken. The dip point usually corresponds with the datum point, but any difference in levels must be designated in the calibration table.

n: a European term for a plumb bob that is attached to a metal dip tape and that is of sufficient weight to keep the tape taut and of such shape as to facilitate the penetration of any sludge that might be present on the datum plate of a tank. Also called outage bob.
