n: an indicator, mounted in the mud circulating system, that measures and indicates the amount of pressure in the drill stem. See drill stem.

n: the pressure exerted by the mud pump (and read on the standpipe or drill pipe pressure gauge) when the pumps speed is reduced to a speed lower than that used during normal drilling. A kill rate pressure or several kill rate pressures are estab- lished for use when a kick is being circulated out of the wellbore. Also called p-low.

n: the delivery capacity pressure of pump that circulates the kill well fluid and discharges the overflow or suppresses well blowout.

n: I. a reduction in the amount of force a fluid exerts against a surface, such as the walls of a pipe. It usually occurs be- cause the fluid is moving against the sur- face and is caused by the friction between the fluid and the surface. 2. the amount of pressure indicated by a drill pipe pressure gauge when drilling fluid is being circulated by the mud pump. Pressure losses occur as the fluid is circulated.
