n: The drill pipe made by alloy of titanium and aluminium. It is lighter than the isometric drill pipe made by steel. It improves the drilling depth of rig, has good fatigue resistence and can absorb shake when connected above the drill collar.

n: A large BOP (q.v.) valve that forms a seal in the annular space between the wellbore and the drill pipe. It is usually installed above the ram type preventers in the BOP stack.

a elastomer bag or donut type seal, pushed into contact with the pipe or tools in the blow out preventer (BOP). It is designed to seal around pipe or any other irregular surface tool (packers, guns, pumps, etc.) that may be in the BOP. May also be called

n: A tong suspended in the derrick, normally on the drillers right, used to hold box end of the tool joint while the pin end is loosened and unscrewed. Also called a make-up tong, as it is moved to pin end to tighten the joint to the recommended torque after

n: The process that drilling fluid is pumped from annular and reverses out from drill pipe. This method is fast than direct flushing.

n: 1. a partial restriction, generally a plate, placed to change the direction, guide the flow, or promote mixing within a tank or vessel. 2. a device that is seated on the bit pin, in a tool joint, or in a drill pipe float, to centralize the lower end of a go-devil while permitting the bypass of drilling fluid.

n: A replaceable metal ring inserted in the BHA (q.v.) to act as a landing collar for a survey tool.

n: A kind of cementing. Send the slurry into the well through drill pipe or pump of oil tube till the surface of the annular is equal to the surface in the pipe, then elevates drill pipe or oil tube and put the cement plug in the former place.

v: 1. to collect a mass of sticky consolidated material, usually drill cuttings, on drill pipe, drill collars, bits, and so forth. A bit with such material attached to it is called a balled-up bit. Balling up is frequently the result of inadequate pump pressure or insufficient drilling fluid. 2. in reference to an anchor, to fail to hold on a soft bottom, pulling out, instead, with a large ball of mud attached.

n: The phenomenon that drill bit or drill tool is surrounded by cutting and viscous mud in drilling progress.

n: the cutting or boring element used in drilling oil and gas wells. The bit consists of a cutting element and a circulating element. The cutting element is steel teeth, tungsten carbide buttons, industrial diamonds, or polycrystalline diamonds (PDCs). The circulating element permits the passage of drilling fluid and utilises the hydraulic force of the fluid stream to improve drilling rates. In rotary drilling, several drill collars are joined to the bottom end of the drill pipe column, and the bit is attached to the end of the drill collars.

a drill bit, commonly either a roller cone, button bit, PDC, diamond or drag bit, used with a rotary string or a mud motor to drill through rock.

n: an integral part of a blowout preventer. which serves as the closing element on an open hole. Its ends do not fit around the drill pipe but seal against each completely. See ram.
