n: the pressure to which a formation is subjected by its overburden. Also called ground pressure, lithostatic pressure, rock pressure.

n: the load exerted by a column of rock.under normal conditions this pressure is approximately 1psi/ft,this is also known as lithostatic pressureor overburden pressure.

n: see geostatic pressure. groundwater n: water that seeps through soil and fills pores of underground rock formations;the source of water in springs and wells.
