n: the procedure by which a new joint of pipe is added to the drill string. The new joint is already placed in the mousehole before the connection is made. The kelly is broken out from the top of the string and swung over to the mousehole where it is made up

n: the addition of a length of drill pipe or tubing to the active string using the rathole instead of the mousehole, which is the more common connection.
