n: in crane operations, the amount of load that causes a wire rope or a sling to fail. Also called actual strength. Compare minimum acceptance strength. nominal strength.

n: a measure of the strength of a wire rope. Minimum acceptance strength is 2 percent lower than the catalog or nominal strength. See nominal strength.

n: wire rope strength that the manufacturer calculates using a standard procedure established by the wire rope industry. Also called catalog strength. Compare breaking strength, minimum acceptance strength.

n: in crane operations, that portion of a wire ropes nominal strength that can be applied either to move or sustain a load without damaging or breaking the rope. The safe working load of a rope is accurate only when the rope is new and the equipment is in good condition. Because most ropes on an installation quickly become used. the safe working load of a rope is also quickly reduced. For this reason, safe working load is seldom used to denote wire-rope strength.
