n: a length of pipe whose bottom edge is serrated or dressed with a hard cutting material and that is run into the wellbore around the outside of stuck casing, pipe, or tubing to mill away the obstruction. Also called a bum shoe. See washover pipe.

n: the cutting shoe fitted to the lower end of washover pipe and dressed with hard-surfaced teeth or tungsten carbide.

If the tool cannot be disengaged from the fish, the safety joint permits easy disengagement of the string of pipe above the safety joint Thus, part of the safety joint and the tool attached to the fish remain in the hole and become part of the fish.

a joint above a piece of equipment that is designed to fail and allow recovery of the upper string.

n: a device made up in a tubing string above a packer or other downhole tool that allows a crew on the surface to remove the tubing string should the packer or other tool get stuck.

a section in a downhole tool string than can be actuated by ball or pressure to allow recovery of the pipe string if the tool is stuck.

n: a dome that is caused by an intrusion of rock salt into overlying sediments. A piercement salt dome is one that has been pushed up so that it penetrates the overlying sediments, leaving them truncated. The formations above the salt plug are usually arched so that they dip in all directions away from the center of the dome, thus frequently forming traps for petroleum accumulations.

n: an anticlinal structure caused by an intrusion of rock salt into overlying sediments.this structure is often associated with traps for petroleum accumlations.

a usually large movement or intrusion of salt that gradually flows through the rock. Can create reservoir traps and can create casing collapse problems.

n: on a pipeline or loop, a device for governing the operation of the sample extracting mechanism in proportion to either time or flow.
