n: a colloidal clay, composed primarily of montmorillonite, that swells when wet. Because of its gel-forming properties, bentonite is a major component of waterbase drilling muds. See gel, mud.

a reference to colloidal clay (generally montmorillinite or smectite),generates plastic viscosity due to clay behavior, size and electrostatic layer. A slurry of which used for P&A Purposes will weigh no less than 9 ppg.

n: the mass or weight of a substance per unit volume. For instance, the density of a drilling mud may be 10 pounds per gallon, 74.8 pounds/cubic foot, or 1,198.2 kilograms/cubic metre. Specific gravity, relative density, and API gravity are other units of density.

n: Mass per unit volume expressed in pounds per gallon (ppg),grams per cubic (g/cc),or pounds per cubic ft (lb/cu.ft). Drilling-fluid density is commonly referred to as mud weight.

n: The mass per unit volume of a drilling fluid, synonymous with mud density. Weight is reported in lbm/gal (also known as ppg),kg/m3 or g/cm3 (also called specific gravity or SG),lb/ft3 or in hydrostatic gradient, lb/in2/ft (psi/ft) or pptf (psi/1000 ft).

n: (ppg) a measure of the density of a fluid (such as drilling mud).

pounds per gallon. Usually used as a measure of additive, slurry or cleanout. Actually it is pounds of proppant in a gallon volume with liquid added to make up the gallon “space”.
