n: a European term for datum plate. dip rod n: a rigid length of wood or metal that is provided with a scale for measurement and usually graduated in units of volume. It is used for manual measurement of liquid in a container. Also called dipstick.

n: the instantaneous display of the number of units of volume or equivalent thereof read directly from a meter register.

n pi: the usual units of volume for petroleum measurement are the cubic metre, litre, imperial gallon, US gallon, or the barrel (42 US gallons, or 159Iitres).
