n: (EVE) on tubing, casing, or drill pipe, the thickening at each end of the joint such that the internal diameter of the joint is not affected;i.e., it remains uniform throughout the joints length. Only the outside diameter is enlarged at each end. Pipe is thickened, or upset, at each end to increase its strength so that threads, couplings, or tool joints may be attached.
